A Commentary on Future Beavercreek Road Projects

Forgotten Projects

Zink Road extend 100 feet to Germany Road. This would eliminate the need for a signalled intersection at Colonel Glenn and Germany Road and even out traffic flow on Colonel Glenn.
North Fairfield Road Widen between Kemp Road and New Germany-Trebein Road. Southbound is three lanes from NGTR to the south Mall entrace, while the rest of the road is two lanes each direction. This road needs to be three lanes in each direction, with left turn lanes for the strip malls south of the main Mall.
Colonel Glenn Highway/Grange-Hall Road Intersection Add extra turn lanes as follows:
  • 2 lanes EB Col Glenn to SB Grange-Hall
  • 2 lanes WB Col Glenn to SB Grange-Hall
  • 2 lanes NB Grange-Hall to WB Col Glenn
  • 2 lanes NB Grange-Hall to EB Col Glenn
  • 1 lane SB National to WB Col Glenn
  • 1 lane WB Col Glenn to NB National
Dayton-Xenia Road Add turn lanes to Rotary Park. This backs up horribly on summer nights during softball season. An extra entrance into Rotary Park would be really nice if it could be made to either dump out onto Beaver Valley Road or DXR at Orchard Lane.
Hanes Road Add a continuous left-turn lane for its entire length, and right-turn lanes at various major intersections. There are a lot of subdivisions that dump out onto this road.
Indian Ripple Road Widen to three lanes between North Fairfield Road and Alpha-Bellbrook Road. This will make it safer to turn left into the major nursing home, church, and multiple subdivisions which empty onto this stretch of road.
Woodman Drive
From Linden Avenue to Airway Road
An extra lane in each direction would be nice here. A lot of traffic wants to use this stretch in both directions during evening rush hour, which makes for backups at both the US 35 interchange and at Airway.
Feed Wire Road/Little Sugarcreek Road Intersection A stoplight was recently installed here to replace a four-way stopsign. Unfortunately, boty roads are two-laned. No effort was made to add left and/or right turn lanes when the lights were installed, so traffic now backs up horribly during rush hour. Turn lanes for all movements would fix that problem.
US 42
Spring Valley bypass
Add an extra two lanes. US 42 currently narrows from 4 to 2 lanes for approximately one mile to bypass Spring Valley on a Super 2 alignment. I believe this is a deficiency, and enough undeveloped land exists next to the current RoW that it can be widened with no impact to surrounding homes. An extra parallel bridge over the Little Miami River and fill dirt in two places would be the most engineering required. Okay, I know this isn't Beavercreek Township, but this is a stretch of road I travel regularly and it's annoying not to have four-lane continuity between Xenia and Waynesville.
US 42
From Waynesville to Lebanon
In a similar vein to the previous forgotten project, US 42 currently narrows from four lanes to two about two miles south of Waynesville and doesn't widen back until the Kroger strip mall on the northeast side of Lebanon. There is a surprising amount of semi traffic on the two-lane stretch, and rural housing hasn't intruded enough on the existing right-of-way (yet) to make widening prohibitively expensive. I think four lanes are definitely justified. The only rough spot would be the unincorporated town of Genntown at the southernmost end of this stretch.
