A Commentary on Future Beavercreek Road Projects

2011-2015 Timeframe

TIP Number Project When Commentary
5 I-675/Grange-Hall Road Interchange 2011-2015 Add Full Movement. There is enough space between 675 and the southbound exit ramp to add a loop southbound merge ramp. There used to be considerable undeveloped land south of 675 and west of Grange-Hall, which would have been more than sufficient to add a northbound exit ramp terminating at the intersection with New Germany-Trebein Road. This project died in the fall of 2005 when construction started on an apartment complex south of 675 with its entrance to be at the intersection of New Germany-Trebein Road and Grange-Hall Road.
9a US 35 Limited Access Conversion between Beavercreek and Xenia 2011-2015 Replacement or elimination of all remaining at-grade intersections. The wording used in the draft plan is out of date and does not reflect current plans for this stretch of highway.
53A Grange Hall Road
from New Germany-Trebein Road to Patterson Road
2011-2015 widen from 2 to 3 lanes. Again, they don't go far enough with this idea. It should be redone as follows:
  • New Germany/Trebein Road to Kemp Road: widen to 5 lanes. This is heavily-travelled by people heading to and from the mall and WPAFB. Just once, I'd like to see a road designed for maximum capacity instead of average capacity.
  • Kemp Road to Southview: widen to 3 lanes. This is residential, and through traffic both ways often gets disrupted by people turning left into residences and side streets.
  • Southview Road to Patterson Road: widen to 5 lanes. This adds extra capacity for the intersections with DXR and OH 835 right where it's needed. The US 35 underpass is more than wide enough to accomodate extra lanes, so no rebuild of this span is necessary.
74 Shakertown Road
from OH 835 to US 35
2011-2015 widen from 2 to 3 lanes. No arguments here -- lots of houses and side streets mean lots of disruption to through traffic.
418 Factory Road
From US 35 to Dayton-Xenia Road
2011-2015 Widen to three lanes and realign north end to terminate at DXR/Beaver Valley Road intersection. There is an abandoned doctor's office just south of the Beaver Valley/DXR intersection which would have to be demolished to make room for this extension. I'd definitely agree that traffic along a three-block stretch of DXR would be improved as a result of this project, because there's a lot of Beaver Valley Road traffic that takes Factory Road (and vice versa).
