675

Interstate 675

Freeway bypassing Dayton to the south and east.

Occasionally, I read about a proposed extension from the southern terminus of 675 around the west side of Dayton to an eventual merge with I-70 east of Brookville. This road, tentatively titled SR 892, faces considerable opposition in the rural sections of western Montgomery County that it would traverse, and is not likely to see the light of day.

Trumpet-style exit to a 0.5-mile unsigned freeway, ending at gate 22B on Wright-Patterson AFB. There is a single, folded diamond exit from this freeway to Colonel Glenn Highway.

Gate 22B may have been moved west a couple of hundred feet from its original location when this portion of 675 was built in the early 1980's. This is based on the roadway-quality unpaved grading one can see while taking the ramp from Colonel Glenn Highway to the present gate.

EXIT 16

Grange-Hall Road

Partial Diamond

Southbound 675 exit, northbound 675 merge only. Auxilliary lane each direction between this exit and SR 844.

The 2001 Miami Valley Regional Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) calls for making this interchange fully directional (my best guess is a five-ramp with an extra loop from southbound Grange Hall to northbound 675) in the 2006-2010 timeframe. The only reason to do this is to allow a means of getting to the Mall at Fairfield Commons that doesn't involve the OH 844/N. Fairfield Road interchange, and only if New Germany-Trebein Road is widened to five lanes from Grange Hall Road to the Mall. You're almost too close to the Col Glenn Highway ramp system to meet certification, and I hope auxilliary lanes between these two exits will be a part of any design built.

Half Diamond Southbound 675 traffic wanting to get to OH 844 North must exit onto North Fairfield Road, turn onto Colonel Glenn Highway, then take the 844 north ramp. The three closely-spaced lights one must get through are (of course) untimed. If there is a big event at Nutter Center, located conveniently at the intersection of North Fairfield and Colonel Glenn, you might as well forget about it.
